The Fish Ecology lab at UTS has been studying population ecology of weedy seadragons in SE Australia since 2002. This has involved establishing tagged populations at 4 sites, and observing growth, densities, reproductive activities etc over the last decade. We have published 8 international papers on our results and have an ongoing monitoring program in Sydney. We collaborate with Sydneys Underwater Research Group (URG), Abyss Diving at Kogarah and Merimbula Divers who dive regularly at our sites and keep us in touch with weedy seadragon numbers and identities. David Booth is global seadragon focal point for IUCN Special Species Group. In April 2022 we, wit the help of citizen beach walkers, recovered over 200 stranded seadragon carcasses from Sydeny due to violent East coast low climate change storms, reming us of their fragile occupancy of our oceans
